Trails

Part of our Club's mission is to promote safe and varied trails suitable for equestrian activities.

We not only want to utilize existing trails, but also propose new routes in new areas. If you have an idea for a new trail option, please reach out or join our Trails Committee and help us achieve our goals!

New Port Oneida Trail Proposal

UPDATED July 22, 2025

We have submitted our proposal to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to establish a designated equestrian trail through the Port Oneida Rural Historic District, which is a part of the national park. This trail will follow county roads and offer a spur along a tree line and and circle trail around Shell Lake near Good Harbor Bay.

The trail will total about 8 miles end to end. Much of it is an out and back type riding experience. two different staging areas are in the proposal, maximizing the riding mileage options.

Most of the trail is flat, with a few gentle rises. There are views of Sleeping Bear Bay from high points on Baker Rd. and the ability to ride near Shell Lake and Narada Lake along the route.
